About

The Rev. Samuel Davies was the first non-Anglican {Dissenter} minister to be officially licensed in Colonial Virginia. First arriving in 1747, Davies began his ministry in Hanover County which is just north of Richmond. He was essential in continuing the movement of the First Great Awakening in the colony. His abiding impact is the foundation he laid for religious freedom, not only in the colony but for the United States. His strong oratory style and public speaking ability had great influence upon a young Virginian named Patrick Henry.

This blog’s mission is to bring Samuel Davies’ name and work some well deserved attention. A New Light Presbyterian, he preached strong evangelistic messages that held up the person and work of Jesus Christ. The name of the blog not only speaks of Samuel Davies’ ministry in Virginia {the Old Dominion}, but also by building upon his foundation my prayer is that a New Light of Revival will shine in the Old Dominion {God’s Kingdom} again. The United States desperately needs a great awakening, and we need to hear from a man like Samuel Davies again.
